Reward yourself!

Hey there, friends!  Tomorrow marks one week into the new year!  How are those resolutions coming along for you?
I’m doing well, too!
Reward yourself!
It can be as simple as indulging in watching a favorite movie or better yet, DESSERT!!
I learned this trick of “Rewarding myself” from a college professor.
She said she used to reward herself with a small bowl of chips or her favorite treat for each assignment, chapter, study session, etc. that she accomplished. It worked for her! It worked for me, too, since I didn’t particularly like her course.
She helped me land myself on the Dean’s list time and time again!  That doesn’t mean anything now but at the time I needed that for my own feeling of success.
That’s the point!  Reward yourself for each success and I promise a lot more success will follow!
So my friends, today I will be enjoying a Starbucks chai tea latte, lunch out  with a friend, a new book I’ve had my eye on and some “me” time!  That’s one reward for keeping in tune with each resolution I set for this coming year.
No...I won’t be going this big with the rewards each week, but I will remember to reward myself often to keep my successes flowing!

“Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts. This is the secret of success.”

I Start my Day with Lemon Water

We all want our days to go well.  How do we achieve this?  Start your day on a positive note and set your good intentions for the day ahead. Breathe goodness into your day right away. may wake up and your back is sore from sleeping funny; or your head is focused on the negativity you feel dragging you down in one way or another.  Stop.  Listen to your body and quiet the demons in your head. You have the key to this day’s happiness. Find it. Keep it on an imaginary keychain you place near the space you wake.  For me it’s lemon water!  I start my day with lemon water!  This is how I know it’s going to be a good one!

You Only Have One Life...Choose Wisely!

“Sometimes the people around you won’t understand your journey.  They don’t need to, it’s not for them.” - Joubert Botha
Every person should take time to reflect on what they really want out of life.  Many want only what they think they are supposed to want. Many people spend their entire lives following the conventions of society and end up unhappy and wondering...”Is this all there is?” You must make the time to sit with yourself and really think what it is you want out of life.  Have you had big dreams, but thought that they were out of reach? What do you want to accomplish? How can you make a difference in others’ lives?
Identifying exactly what will give your life meaning will take time and is subject to change as you grow wiser.  You have the power to change your life and really live!  Emerson said “Dare to live the life you have dreamed of for yourself.”
Step 1. Think.  Reflect. Step 2. Identify YOUR dreams. Step 3. Take action. Society is messed up!

Writing Isn’t Just for Real Writers!

What is a “real” writer anyway? I am and I’m not. I like to write and I hate to write. I’ve always enjoyed writing for my own entertainment. Diary/ journal entries, stories; real or imaginary.  Writing for school assignments as a student and as a teacher never brought me joy.  When I’m writing for my own enjoyment there’s no judgement; fear removed.  Writing because I had to brought me stress.  My dad always encouraged me to write. Before he passed away in 2015 I finished my first children’s book that sits in my writing bag. Unpublished. Why?  Just like the assigned writing projects; fear and judgement.  I’m sorry dad for not writing the way you encouraged me to, but this daily blog is my way of honoring you.  So...I encourage all of you to write, too, if you enjoy it.  Whether you or I consider ourselves writers; if we enjoy it, we should do it!
